What is Proof of Concept (PoC)
Proof of concept (POC) is well researched and well prepared documented proof that a potential product or service can be feasible, and useful. It is used to authenticate that some concept, idea or theory has the potential of being used for business benefits. It is usually small and may or may not be complete in its implementation.
PoC can help organizations to identify potential benefits, and technical and logistical issues that might obstruct its usefulness. Often organizations implement PoC to ask for internal feedback about a product or service; thus it provides opportunity to avoid unnecessary risk and exposure by providing the opportunity for stakeholders to assess product or services early on in the development cycle before full-fledged implementation.
Objective of PoCs:
- To identify opportunities on how the proposed product or service will support business goals
- Clearly defined criteria for Business benefits
- Technical Documentation on how the PoC will be carried out
- Proposal for how to move forward
