OpenKM is available in two different variations; OpenKM community edition under the GNU General Public Licence version 2 that is supported via the forum of the user community while OpenKM Cloud increases the sharing and managing of information in organization without investing in CapEx. It is available across all platforms such as Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.
Users can access the OpenKM application through a variety of browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox, and Safari because it implements a Web 2.0 user interface framework based on Google Web Toolkit. Mobile UI is also supported. Content Management Interoperability Services protocol, an OASIS open standard allows integration with a variety of document management systems and repositories. OpenKM uses Spring Framework and hence Spring Security centralizes access management based on credentials. In addition to this, it can be easily integrated with most anti-virus products. The OpenKM Core centralizes management and processing logic for document, folder, emails and records, and combination of metadata structures. It also uses JBPM workflow engine for workflow management. It uses Hibernate for Object Relation Mapping and supports Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server, DB2 etc. OpenKM uses very popular search engine product Lucene.
